How I came to build my Puma Clubman.

I have always wanted a race car but needed to do it on a budget. So in 2000 I bought a  Formula Vee that was in pieces, incomplete andPractice 2007s.jpg (44750 bytes) minus an engine. The car had been in a shed for 10 years having been stripped and never rebuilt. About 6 months later and after lots of work and very steep learning curve, I had my first race car drive, in my now rebuilt Formula Vee. Needless to say it was the best fun ever. 10112007359.jpg (38919 bytes) After several sprint races my brother Craig came out to a practice day and had a drive. He loved it too and wanted to get his own car.

Instead I suggested I show him the car that I really wanted to own and I took him to meet John Karnon to see his Puma. I had met John about 3 years prior and loved his car but at the time felt that building one was beyond my abilities. However after rebuilding my Formula Vee I was more confident, also if Craig and I worked together work could pool our resources and abilities. The decision was made to go ahead on the 18th Feb 2003. Craig and I built our cars together, two cars at a time. They were built mechanically identical but with different finishing such as colour and wheels etc .

Feb 18th 2003 we decided to go ahead. My car was registered Dec14th 200419.JPG (488571 bytes)

We worked together making and designing every part from the wishbones to the wiring. It was an enormous amount of work but worth every minute.  One of the most rewarding days was the day my car was started for the first time. Click here to see and hear my engine (very large file) the first day it was started.

I still find it hard to believe that I built my own car.

New Car - Commenced Jan 2009

I was very privileged to work with John on my new Chassis. We only tacked my Chassis because I wanted to Tig weld it for added strength. I have since spent a lot of time getting it how I want it and adding a few extra bits.

My build process is different this time. I will be building most of the car unpainted and without Aluminum sheeting then stripping it and rebuilding it with paint and ali sheeting.

New Pics as of July 2010 I have started the final rebuild.
